Imphal, August 29 2010:
Out of 86 motor-vehicle claim related cases, 64 involving a compensation amount of over Rs 1.21 crore were disposed today in a Lok Adalat held at Cheirap Court complex.
The Lok Adalat was held at the chamber no.1 of the District and Session Court to dispose off pending cases related with motor-vehicle related accident claims pending with New India Assurance and United India Assurance.
Out of 86 cases put up for disposal, 68 were disposed off in the Lok Adalat which the hearing was conducted in four benches and the assurance companies were ordered to pay a total compensation amount of Rs 1,21,67,000 to the petitioners.
In the meantime, the Manipur State Legal Service Authority, Imphal organised a Mega Lok Adalat cum Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness Camp at the same Cheirap Court complex.
Justice Maibam Binoykumar of Gauhati High Court who is also the executive chairman of the Manipur State Legal Service Authority graced the inaugural function of the legal awareness programme which was presided over by District and Session Judge, Manipur East, Th Surbala.
ML, L Nandakumar and former president of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), Ch Nodiyachand attended as guests of honour of the function.
