As it would not be possible to provide security coverage to all the employees working in the Engineering Department, patrolling and checking by security personnel around the offices and residential areas of the Engineers against whom threats have been issued has been intensified, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed the House today.
Responding to a Call Attention Motion jointly raised by three MLAs of Federal Party, namely S Ibohal, I Hemochandra and L Ibomcha drawing the attention of the Home Minister and Works Minister to the mass resignation of Engineers including the Chief Engineer of PWD, the Chief Minister admitted that the Heads of Departments and the DDOs are facing lot of difficulties in carrying out their duties due to interference from various militant groups.
However, he fervently appealed to the Engineers to withdraw their resignation papers as the Government has been making sincere efforts to bring about conducive atmosphere for the engineers to work in.
After the Assembly session, the Chief Minister reportedly held a meeting with the aggrieved Engineers at his office chamber to discuss their problems and necessary remedial measures to be taken up.
The Chief Minister also convinced the Engineers that all the matters that was discussed during the meeting would be placed on the floor of the House for consideration.
Works Minister Th Devendra rued that all the time-bound Centrally sponsored schemes and other developmental works would not be executed due unstable law and order condition.
Raising the Call Attention Motion, S Ibohal demanded to know the stand of the Govt with regard to resignation of the Engineers en-masse, and whether the resignations have been accepted or not.
Hemochandra alluded to the report of alleged high-handedness of police commandos who forced an Engineer of Thoubal Division to sign a cheque for Rs 5 lakhs even as the State Government has not been able to maintain the law and order problem.
