Kohima, February 08:
The Nagaland Unit of BJP also joined today the nation-wide protest against the dismissal of Manohar Parrikar BJP Government in Goa by Governor SC Jamir.
Speaking in the protest rally here at the State BJP Office today, Nagaland BJP President MC Konyak criticized the Goa Governor, SC Jamir, for blatant violation of the Constitutional norms of the country.
"Dismissal of a popular Government even after proving its majority on the floor of the House, is nothing but utter disregard of the established convention and norms of the Constitution of India, besides trampling democracy," Konyak said.
Questioning the manner in which the Goa Governor administered swearing in of the Congress Government within minutes of dismissal of the BJP Government, the Nagaland BJP Chief stated the future of the country was in grave condition.
He said Congress had the track records of dishonoring the democratic norms of the country since Indira Gandhi era.
"We all know how Emergency was imposed by Indira Gandhi and the leaders of the non-Congress leaders had to endure inhuman harassment and agony," he highlighted.
Konyak, however, said the previous NDA Government, if they wished, could have dismantled the Congress-rule States.
But they had never resorted to such kind of tactics because they respected the Constitution and the mandate of the people, he explained.
He also called upon the non-Congress political parties to join hands with the BJP in its struggle to "Save Democracy" from the hands of the Congress Raj.
Transport Minister and senior State BJP leader, Imtilemba, while speaking in the rally also castigated Goa Governor, SC Jamir, for bringing disregard to not only to the country but also Nagas.
"It is a shame on the part of the Nagas that their own people, who was been sent as Governor of Goa, has trampled the democracy by dismissing a duly elected popular Government of BJP by misusing the office of Governor," he said.
He (Jamir) had not only violated the Constitution of India but also dishonored the functioning of the Speaker who was supreme inside the Assembly.
Governor's interference into the Speaker's business was unheard of in the past but Goa Governor had done it, he said asserting there should be serious debate on this so that future democracy of this country was not at stake.
"For Nagas, such behavior of Jamir was not new thing but for others strange," Imtilemba said adding, "It should be the duty of the Naga people to tell their counterparts that they are not with him (Jamir)".
He cautioned that Jamir had just started his Gubernatorial experiment and the second target would be Nagaland.
Because he would be given Carte blanch by the Congress High Command on whatever he wishes to do as he could succeed his Goa mission.
Former Minister and BJP leader TN Ngullie, Kohima District BJP President R Sopu also spoke in the rally, Vizopal Chaye chaired program.
Meanwhile "Save Democracy" rally was also organized in Mangkolemba where State Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Dr TM Lotha and NIDC Chairman Tiameren Aier (both are senior State BJP leaders) and Mongkolemba BJP President K Moa Longkumer addressed.
