As part of the nation-wide protest against dismissal of BJP Government of Goa, State party unit today staged a sit-in-protest demonstration at Old Lambulane, Jail Road, Imphal from 10 am to 4 pm.
The BJP led Manohar Panikkar Government which was still enjoying the majority was allegedly dismissed by Goa Governor SC Jamir and replaced it with the Congress led Pratap Singh Rane Government hurriedly.
As the demonstration led by State party Chief Th Chaoba began, the party workers took out a rally towards Raj Bhavan while shouting slogans to save democracy and demanding installation of the BJP Government and dismissal of Goa Governor.
But as the demonstrators were stopp-ed from proceeding further in front of the TG Higher Secondary School, a memorandum jointly signed by party president Th Chaoba, MLA M Bhorot and vice president Dr N Tombi was submitted at the Raj Bhavan.
The copy of the memorandum which called for non interference on the part of the Governors in the governance as in the case of Goa was faxed to Governor Dr SS Sidhu who is presently at New Delhi.
Later the BJP workers continued their demonstration at Old Lambulane, Jail Road till 4 pm.
Addressing party workers at the occasion, Chaoba and former Speaker Dr Haobam Borobabu among other party leaders expressed strongly condemnation over the manner in which Goa Governor dismissed the BJP Govt and hurriedly installed a Congress led Government.
Chaoba said that BJP formed the came to power by its own strength with 22 MLAs in a House which has 40 seats.
Even after Congress managed to win over four BJP MLAs with money power, BJP with 18 MLAs was still enjoying the majority.
Despite that Governor Jamir dismissed the BJP Government and hurried installed a Congress Government.
What the Goa Governor had done was illegal and he should be removed from the post, he demanded.
Borobabu asserted that although a Congress Government has been installed in Goa, it is yet to prove its majority.
