The 7th National Conference on Physics was opened today at the lecture hall of MIMS, Manipur University with Vice-Chancellor Prof C Amuba, executive president of the Physics Academy of the North East (PANE) Prof DK Choudhury and Prof A Surjalal Sharma of University of Maryland, USA as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The conference being held with the aim of bringing together all the scientists and research scholars of the North East and other States of the country and abroad would continue till tomorrow.
Apart from the conference, three distinguished scientists of the region were also felicitated during the programme.
Prof AK Borbora of Guwahati University, Prof C Amuba of Manipur University and Prof H Nandakumar were felicitated during the conference for their contributions in the field of Physics.
They were presented a shawl and a citation each.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Amuba said that such conference would be an inspiration to all, specially young teachers and scholars of Physics.
Teaching physics is also an opportunity for learning.
Physics can be a religion to all those who are genuinely interested in it, Prof Amuba said.
A true physicist is one who can think beyond what is expected, he said.
Prof DK Choudhury hailed the achievements of Manipur in the field of games and sports.
Appreciating the works of young research scholars, he said that the region has a long way to go in the field of academic research.
Prof A Surjalal Sharma presented the 3rd Bipinpal Das Memorial Oration.
