Imphal, October 05 2010:
Two of four activists of KCP (MTF), who attempted to kidnap a deputy ranger of the forest department at gun point from his house at Yumnam Huidrom Leikai under Wangoi police station, were were seized by the local people.
When they fired guns in their effort to take the officer away , a youth, son of the elder brother of the deputy ranger, sustained a bullet injury in the forehead.
Police later took the two in their custody.
The incident occurred at about 9 pm last night and the deputy ranger who escaped from the activists has been identified as Yumnam Kulladhaja (50).He is currently posted at Jiribam.
The injured youth, son of the elder brother of deputy ranger, has been identified as Bomcha alias Surchandra.
He was been admitted to a hospital in Imphal.
Local reports said that four youths who identified themselves as activists of KCP (MTF) came in an auto-rickshaw.
When the deputy ranger came out of his house they grabbed his hand and tried to take him away forcibly.
When Kulladaja insisted them to free him first and to have talks, one of activists took out a sidearm and fired a round at him.
The officer escaped unhurt as his daughter pulled him inside their house.
At the same time, another cadre also pulled out a gun and fired again.
The bullet hit Bomcha.
Alarmed by firings, neighbours rushed to the house and chased the four who ran in different directions on seeing the people rushing to catch them.
Locals caught two of them while two others managed to escape.
No sooner had the locals overpowered them, a team of police commandos attached with Wangoi police arrived and took them away .
Police also took away a 9 mm pistol and two magazines recovered by the people from the possession of one of the kidnappers.
Following the incident, locals have decided to ban entry of outsiders in their locality in the night.
The decision to impose the restriction was taken in a public meeting held today.
The restriction to the entry of outsiders at Yunmam Huidrom, Thiyam Leishangthem will be effective from 6 pm of everyday till 6 am of next morning, the meeting resolved.
Womenfolk of the area also staged a sit-in protest to register a strong protest against the act of the KCP (MTF), attempting to kidnap a local man and firing at innocent people.
