Among others, the student union is demanding appointment of regular principals of government colleges, a regular director of Education (U) and improvement of infrastructure in colleges particularly with reading materials suited to the times.
The Coordination Committee of Colleges Students' Union has been pressing the state government to fulfill their demands by launching various forms of agitations like staging of sit-in protest and rallies since July 4.With their demands unheeded they have served an ultimatum to the government to translate their demands into work, said convener of the union, L Sanjit.
Addressing a press conference held at GP Women College, the convener said that despite repeated pleas to the government to address their demands, government has remained deaf.
In their latest act, they had organized a rally in Imphal on August 23 and submitted a memorandum to the Education minister stating their demands.
In response the, education minister had assured that regular principals of colleges will be appointed within September.
He further agreed to fill up all the vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staffs of the colleges within September.
