Since the deployment of the police commandos and Village Defense Force (VDF), apart from tightening up security at Central jail under trial prisoners (UTPs) and convicted prisoners have been kept under close vigils.
Television sets provided to the jails inmates have been taken out and they have been banned from visiting from their respective sector to other sectors.
They have been confined only to their respective sectors, official source said.
The visit of the inmates by their families and relatives has also been put under strict scanner.
Unless visitors produced identification cards, they have been banned from visiting inmates.
Visiting timing has also been modified.
Except on Sunday, visitors have been banned from meeting with the inmates in the rest six days.
In guarding of the jail also CRPF have been handed over the charge of protection of the outer core that is surrounding of the jail and the inner core has been guarded by the police commandos and VDF.
The step has been taken up after Thokchom Nando who was in the jail as under trial prisoner in connection with case of murder of eight year old girl Luningla Elizabeth daughter of former state minister, Francis Ngakjokpa was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of contractor Y Krishnadas in June this year and seizure of mobile phones from the jail inmates.
Mention may be made that as a part of security measure in the jail after the incident, additional SP jail, Th Subachandra has been transferred at Churachandpur district jail and three staffs of the jail have also been placed under suspension from their services.
Out of around 400 staffs of the jail most of them had also been transferred and attached at the Central jail, Imphal leaving only five to six staffs and replaced by police commandos and VDF on July 11 last.
They have been guarding the jail under the supervision of MPS officer under probation.
