Imphal, February 07 2009:
Police have picked up two bullet-riddled dead bodies found lying at a place under Lamshang police station in Imphal West district yesterday evening.
One of the corpses has been handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem at the RIMS morgue.
The identity of the slain man has been established as Loitongbam Angelo (33), son of L Rajen of Kwakeithel while the other dead body could not be identified immediately.
The man seems to be in his early forties.
His lifeless body is still lying at the RIMS morgue for identification.
The hands of both the dead bodies were found tied on their backs.
In another incident, one suspected insurgent was shot dead by Thoubal district police commandos around 3.30 pm today at Langathel Phundrei Hill in Thoubal district.
This is the 39th incident of such encounter which took place in 38 days of the year 2009 .
Police source claimed that two to three insurgents opened fire at a team of police personnel and the latter retaliated killing one UG while the rest managed to escape.
Police source then said that after the encounter a search operation was conducted and recovered one 9mm pistol, one magazine, two live rounds of 9mm and empty cases from the slain UG.
