Solar lamps have been distributed to the selected Field Operating Units (FOUs) and Chawki Rearing Centres (CRCs) of Thoubal, Bishnupur and Imphal West District during a function organised by Sericulture Department at Kangla Hall here today.
Sericulture Minister L Jayantakumar and Director of Sericulture Department K Thaibemma attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Out of the total 132 FOUs in Thoubal district, the solar lamps have been distributed to 56 selected FOUs and 10 CRCs.
While for Bishnupur, of the total 59 FOUs, 43 FOUs and 4 CRCs have been provided with solar lamps and for Imphal West district which has a total number of 37 FOUs, the solar lamps have been distributed to 11 selected FOUs and 4 CRCs during the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Jayantakumar informed that there are in all 1000 FOUs in various districts of the State working for the development of sericulture and the solar lamps have been distributed for the first phase among the FOUs selected on their basis of their work performance.
In this field, FOUs need to work with conviction and determination.
Stating that sericulture is an activity that has been associated closely with the culture and evolution of the Manipuri society, the Minister noted that at one time, this activity had been almost given up by the people even as many looked upon Sericulture Department as a place from where they could avail fund.
For the promotion of this activity, concerted efforts of all right from the farmers at the grassroots level to the level of the Minister is essential, the Minister pointed out.
While observing that in Sericulture activities adequate supply of electricity, water pump and power tiller are essential, the Minister assured that the required water pumps and power tillers would be provided to the hard working farmers.
