Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said the state government has initiated the implementation of Small Hydro-electric Project in order to solve the problems faced by the state due to shortage of power.
He was speaking at a one-day Orientation cum Awareness programme on renewable energy held today at Rayburn College, New Lamka, Churachandpur which was jointly organised by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) and Rayburn College, Churachandpur.
Phungzathang said, there have been around 1,050 households which gain the benefits of renewable energy in the state including biogas and solar energy.
He also stressed on the need to replace the use of firewood to renewable energy.
The occasion was graced by Power Minister T Phungzathang, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Jacintha Lazarus, and principal of Rayburn College, Rev Khen B Tombing as the chief guest, president and chief host respectively.
During the technical session, Director of MANIREDA, L Manglem and lecturer of Rayburn College, Mangcha Shoute have presented talks on 'Renewable energy and energy efficient system� and 'Global warming� respectively.
A quiz competition on renewable energy was also conducted with Y Kholchandra, scientific officer of MANIREDA as the quiz master.
