The appointment of S Geeta as chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education has been made as temporary arrangement so as not to affect in the declaration of the results of the examinations conducted by the council after former chairman N Ibobi retired from the job, state education minister, L Jayentakumar informed Huiyen Lanpao today.
He said after the then chairman of the council N Ibobi retired on superannuation, government by issuing an order handed over the work charge of the post to additional director education (s), S Geeta.
Mention may be made that the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) while strongly alleging that state government appointed a person who is not qualified for the post as chairman of the council, threatened to boycott the new chairman.
The education minister disclosed this when Hueyen Lanpao held interaction with the education minister as the state education secretary PK Singh was not available to make enquiry to the charge leveled by the students body.
The minister said Ibobi's retirement from the job has affected to the process for declaration of this year HSSLC examination conducted by the council.
That was why, to able to declare the result on time, S Geeta has been appointed as alternative arrangement.
Government has no plan to appoint her on regular basis, the minister said adding that government has also faced in extending the service of the former chairman, N Ibobi.
He also said that additional director of education (s) can be treated as full-fledged director if he or she takes the charge of the director.
S Geeta has been looking after the charge of the additional director on regular basis.
That was why, government issued the order appointing she as chairman of the council for not to disturb in the process for declaration of results of the exam conducted by the council, the minister reiterated.
As she has not been permanently appointed, it would be wrong to take the matter as an issue, the minister commented.
