Imphal, August 23 2010:
MPP has condemned the suspension of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) by the state government.
In a press release, General Secretary, MPP Y Mangi informed that a central committee meeting of the party held today strongly condemned the suspension of IMC by the government saying that the suspension of the elected body was carried out with a hidden agenda.
The press release also mentioned that devolution of power to local bodies for the implementation of central sponsored schemes which is enshrined in the constitution for wider coverage of development works has not been properly done in Manipur and asked the government for proper channelization of funds to IMC, and other elected bodies.
MPP has demanded for revoking the suspension of IMC at the earliest as it would be a befitting respect given to democracy.
They also mentioned that when the salaries of MLAs and MPs have been increased, government needs to hike the salaries of elected councilors, Zilla Parishad members, Panchayat Pradhans and their members.
