Imphal, Aug 17 2009:
Irked by the delay of announcement of dates of Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has given 16 days time to State Government and Hill Areas Committee (HAC) to fix dates for the matter with effect from today.
Talking to The Sangai Express, spokesperson of the IDF, H Mangchinkhul said that HAC's failure to fix the date for ADC elections draws people's apprehension to a great extend for playing 'blame game'' for their own selfish politi cal gains where the loss has been borne by the indigenous people for the past 20 years.
IDF Ulkhrul unit spokesperson SW Shimray stated that the narrow mindedness and political gimmick of the Gov ernment and HAC can no longer befool the people.
Time has come to act fast and ask all the 20 tribal MLAs to come to common sense and respond to the cry of the long suppressed tribals, he added.
S W Shimray said that during the years 2003 to 2004, most of the development funds of the district were returned to the Centre as no grass root democratic body was there to utilise the fund.
The executive council considering all pros and cons has resolved to take severest form of democratic agitation in collaboration with various civil society organizations if HAC and State Government fail to fix the date for ADC elections within this month, he warned.
