Imphal, May 15 2011:
The victory of Congress in Assam Assembly election and improvement of its position in other states where elections were held has become a morale booster for the party in the state whose leaders have started to campaign for the forthcoming state Assembly election.
After the MPCC president Gaikhangam expressed confidence of the party returning to power after the 2012 Assembly election, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh today said that he believed that the people of the state will continue to support the party knowing the political scenario of the country.
Making it a platform for the IMC election, Congress leaders are highlighting the victory of the Congress in Assam and improved positions in other states when election results were declared on Friday.
Speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony of a Congress candidate in the IMC election today, the CM said that the Congress's position is much improved in the country.
The landslide victory in Assam will give an impact in returning the party to power in the next state Assembly election.
He pointed out the discouraging position of other political parties in the election to the Assam Assembly and said that except the Congress no other parties could secure upto 10 seats.
The Congress had been able to draw the confidence of the people because the party was committed to keep the promises it had made to the people.
Even though 100 % of the promises could not be translated into work, the party tried its best to translate all the promises into work, he said.
It is well known to the party that in democracy, the voice of the people is the voice of God and the party workers takes this seriously, Ibobi claimed.
The CM also flayed other political parties in the state asking how can these political parties who could fielded candidates in just one third of the total 27 IMC wards are going to fight the election for the Assembly.
For the Congress besides having won in one seat uncontested the party has fielded candidates in the maximum number of wards, he added.
Hinting that most political leaders of other parties are seeking an entry to the Congress, Ibobi said that he could not understand to which parties the politicians in the opposition groups belong to.
They shouted for a pre-poll alliance but with the elections coming up, they have forgotten what they had placed before the people.
How can these political parties who could not keep their promises can win the confidence of the people, he asked.
Most of the Congress candidate in the fray in IMC election will win as people knew that the party is taking the IMC elections seriously.
Not only the IMC election, Congress is always committed to serious work in every election, he said.
