Violation of street vendors' right look into

Imphal, May 15 2011:
A team of the Centre for Human Rights and Education (CHRDE), Manipur University in its three day project to assess report if the decision of the state government violates human rights of the street vendors in Khwairamban Keithel today visited Thangal Bazar areas and fruit sellers near the Chamber of Commerce and collected reports.
The project was taken up under the guidance of UGC which directed the university to assess reports on whether the state government is upholding the rights of its people in the state.
The team after gathering reports will analyse it and submit reports to the UGC, state Governor and CM O Ibobi.
It will also submit a suggestion to solve the issue of street vendors to the government as well.
The team led by Dr M Sureshkumar, Coordinator CHRDE and M Surendro, general secretary, sesearch wing CHRDE is comprises of 40 students.
The team collected detailed report on whether the non Manipuri fruit sellers at Thangal Keithel are license holder or not and the area they are occupying is footpath or not.
It may be mentioned that the team had visited Lamphel Sana Keithel on May 14 to assess reports from the street vendors there.
