AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day observed

As observed around the globe, the 28th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day, one of the world's largest grassroots movements against HIV and AIDS, spreading hope, developing leaders, and uniting communities was also observed in the state today.
The Candlelight Memorial is coordinated by the Global Network of People living with HIV to create awareness of HIV/AIDS in th world.
Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) observed the day with a function at its office premises at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai, Imphal.
The day was observed under the theme Touching Lives this year.
Offering candlelight vigil marked the day.
Deputy Director, MACS (TI&Blood Safety) Dr Tomcha Khuman who graced the function as chief guest said that offering floral tributes and candlelight vigil alone cannot stop discrimination and other stigma facing by the HIV positive people.

One should also discuss how the people and their children should be brought up properly in the society without letting them face any sort of discrimination and stigma.
He further said that the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) 3 does not have any specialized programmes for women, adolescents and juvenile drug users.
He will personally press the NACO to include such programmes in the NACP 4, he said.
He also said that Nelekson drug which is use in treating drug overdose will be made available through MACS and various NGOs.
MACS will also be organizing training programmes on treatment of drug overdose without any medications to volunteers working in the field.
Speaking in the occasion Sushilkumar, Chief Functionary, SASO said that more than 33 million people in the world are living with HIV/AIDS.
SASO had been struggling for the rights of the people living with HIV/AIDS.
Unfortunately, no special policy for the HIV positive people has been introduced in the state.
The observation being held around the globe is to bring a change to the lives of the HIV positive people, he said.
Treasurer of MNP+ L Deven presided over the function.
Chief Functionary of Life Line Foundation Bikram Nepram also attended the function as guest of honour.
