Brajachand Theatre Fest 2015 kicks off

Imphal, January 11 2015:
Five-day long Brajachand Theatre Festival 2015 being organized by Khundrakpam Brajachand Memorial Trust commenced on Sunday at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
Ksh Ibohal, president of Manipur Dramatic Union; Prof N Tombi, renowned writer and Dr K Sobita, Director of Art & Culture Department graced the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion as special invitee, Kh Joykishan, MLA Thangmeiband Constituency said that the appealing drama stories written by late Kh Brajachand are worth to read.
He called upon the people especially younger generation to take lead roles to strengthen theatre activities in the State.
Dr Sobita said that theatre is a potential medium that can develop the society with its fine artistic performances while expressing desire for organizing the festival in such a way that life stories and valuable contributions made by the late artist towards consolidation of the State theatre could be known.
Varieties of drama are going to be showcased during the festival.
People should watch it and understand its underlying messages, she added.
Ksh Ibohal conceded that the State despite its small geographical size has produced many people who have excelled in the field of drama which is laudable.
Asserting that the State has got a huge potential in the theatre field, he admitted that there are many things that need to be done to further develop theatre in the State.
As part of the festival, play 'Mathanggi Yenningthada' of Cosmopolitan Dramatic Union was performed.
Several others notable plays including 'Tingkhang' of Khoriphaba Artists' Union; 'Ahal Ama' of Manipuri Ensemble, Turel Wangma and 'Chithi Puba Uchek' of Theatre Mirror Manipur will also be showcased during the festival.
