First anti-rabies vaccine to be free for BPL families

With dog-bite cases increasing by the day, the Chief Medical Officer, Churachandpur said the District Immunization Office will administer the first dose of vaccine free of cost to dog-bite victims.
District Immunization Office and the administration have set afoot to counter the menace.
Not only are the district health officials working continuously to fight the menace but they are also supported by their counterparts from Imphal, Dr Thangchinkhup said.
Urging individuals with dog bite cases to contact the Rapid Action Team or to approach the casualty department at district hospital, Dr Thangchinkhup said the DIO will administer the first dose of anti-rabies vaccine free of cost to those who posess BPL cards.
The state authority has provided over 40 doses of the vaccine in the past week, he informed.
'We will be receiving more vaccine in the coming week', he said.
The doctor also maintained that rabies outbreak was not officially confirmed as yet in the area.
