Imphal, January 11 2015:
The Koirengei Awang Chaokhat Thourang Committee has announced that the committee in collaboration with the public would collect tax along the Koirengei-Awang Sekmai Leikinthabi stretch of road unless the State Govt repairs the road stretch by Jan 26, 2015 .
Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, adviser of KACTC, Nandalal Angomcha said that about 7 and half kms long Koirengei bridge-Sekmai Leikinthabi road was blacktopped in 2013.However, due to the presence of as many as 34 stone crushers along the stretch and frequent movement of trucks to and fro the stone crushing sites, the road condition deteriorated now.
He said that a public meeting held yesterday decided that the KACTC in collaboration with the public would collect tax along the road for road repairing from Jan 27 if the Govt fails to repair the same by Jan 26 .
He said that around Rs 3 crore has been accrued as tax along the stretch yearly.
Urging the Govt also to repair the Koirengei bridge at the earliest, Nandalal also said that movement of heavy loaded trucks would be restricted if no immediate attention is given for the renovation of the bridge.
The Committee also urged the authority concerned to expedite construction of Sekmai Dam project under NEC before farming season of this year begins.
