Imphal, June 22, 2010:
At least four trucks coming towards Imphal in a diversion route from the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 at Sekmai were smashed by some unknown miscreants in the wee hours of Tuesday in the continued attack on the vehicles plying the NH-39. Police reports said the four trucks loaded with fresh fish coming from Dimapur last night were attacked by miscreants suspected to be supporters of the decision not to ply vehicles on the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39. The Transporters' and Drivers' Council is banning plying of commercial vehicles on the section of the highway demanding safety assurance from the Nagaland and Central government and compensations for the vehicles damaged in Nagaland during the NSF agitation.
The four trucks were damaged while trying to enter Imphal by taking diversion route from Sekmai towards Lamshang in Imphal West after taking all the way from Dimapur to Sekmai, the last police check post to reach Imphal, which is around 28 km from Imphal.
Miscreants smashed windshields of the four trucks at a place at Kameng Chingchin village under Lamshang police station.
Apart from breaking the windshields of the vehicles, miscreants also destroyed loaded items, that is, fresh fish, police said.
