In a second such incident in three days, an army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.
Sepoy Thangminlun, a resident of Gangpimual in Manipur who was posted with 42 Rashtriya Rifles, was on sentry duty when he shot himself inside the camp at Banilmarg Top forest area in Tral, 45 km from here, they said.
Police have started investigation to ascertain the motive behind the extreme step taken by the jawan.
Earlier on June 20, Havaldar Gulshan Kumar of 28 Rashtriya Rifles committed suicide in a similar way in Kupwara district of North Kashmir.
In a separate incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide after consuming poison in Hakora village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir today, police said.
