A Jeep suspected to be used by the PREPAK cadres during the attack on 12 MLI personnel at Maibam Lotpaching yesterday was found partially being burnt down at a place around four kilometres east of Nambol PS.
According to information culled from the spot, the modified Marshal Jeep bears registration no MN-01/K-7297.Several holes caused by gunfire at the body of the Jeep and a holes caused by bombs were also visible.
As the Nambol police did not picked the jeep under their custody, the owner of the vehicle could not be established yet.
Meanwhile, a suspected militant has been gunned down this afternoon by a combined force of Imphal west and Thoubal police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Li in an encounter at Yangoi Khongbal 4 km south of Wangoi police station of Imphal west district bordering with Thoubal district this afternoon at around 2.10 pm.
An AK-56 rifle loaded with 15 live rounds of ammunition recovered from the slain suspect, the police report added.
Army men belonging to the 12th Maratha Light Infantry, led by Lt Satbir Singh, were attacked by unidentified militants last night in Oinam area in Bishenpur district in which in the ensuing encounter Lt Satbir Singh was killed, and another jawan named Chandrakanta injured.
The army intercepted with the militants who made their way after attacking to a house of an engineer of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA).
Militants exploded two grenades and fired at the house of the official, Ibopishak Singh, from whom they had demanded money.
