Security forces have arrested six underground activists from different parts of the State.
A combined team of Thoubal Police Commandos and 34 Assam Rifles arrested one cadre of the proscribed KCP from Khangabok Bazar area at around 10.45 am today.
According to a statement issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Thoubal District Clay Khongsai, at about 10 am today on receipt of reliable information about the presence of UG cadres in the general area of Khangabok Bazar, a combined team of Commandos of Thoubal District Police and 34 Assam Rifles rushed to the area and conducted frisking and checking of the suspected persons.
During the frisking/checking, at about 10.40 am, one cadre of KCP namely Pukhrambam Nanao Singh alias Awangakpa alias Ibomcha (24) s/o Pukhrambam Manglem Singh of Langathel Khunou was arrested.
When questioned, the individual disclosed that he is an active member of KCP and S/S Pvt Jr under army no.393 of 16th batch.
The SPP also conveyed about the arrest of an active member of UNLF by Thoubal Police Commandos during frisking and checking in and around Wangjing Bazar at around 11.30 am today.
Identifying the arrested UNLF member as Kongbrailatpam Milan Sharma (18) s/o late Kongbrailatpam Yaima Sharma of Sambram Mayai Leikai, the SSP informed that on questioning, the individual disclosed that he is an active member of UNLF and presently working in finance section of the proscribed outfit.
On the other hand, troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in general area of Pallel Market and apprehended three KYKL activists who were moving in a silver coloured Santro Car bearing registeration no.MN01Y-0781 yesterday.
According to PRO Assam Rifles, the arrested KYKL cadres have been identified as K Jadu Singh (41) s/o K Dijemani of Wangkhai, Imphal East who is the project officer of the outfit, K Kadamlash (30) s/o K Dijemani Singh of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district who is he finance secretary of the outfit and Th Lokandro Singh (30) s/o Th Ibocha of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district.
The arrested cadres have been handed over to Kakching Police Station today, the PRO conveyed.
Meanwhile, PRO Defence Wing has conveyed that in a successful operation launched by the troops of 57 Mountain Division, one cadre of KNF (P) identified as S/S Capt Lalboi was apprehended while trying to extort money from the locals at Laikot near Motbung on March 17.The cadre was in possession of a weapon, one grenade and extortion notes of the outfit when apprehended, the PRO said, adding that the arrested cadre has been handed over to the police.
