State Govt has taken up steps to infuse a new lease of life in Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC) which has been in dire strait with filmmakers taking more interest in production of digital films than celluloid films.
According to an official source, to resume construction work of the Theatre Complex of the Corporation which has been stalled since 1998, the State Govt has instructed the Pakhangba Space Consultant and Designer Private Limited, Imphal to redesign the complex and asked the Manipur Development Society (MDS) for preparing a new estimation of the project accordingly.
The construction work of the Theatre Complex began in 1995 but has been stopped since 1998 due to poor financial condition of the State Government.
The source further informed steps have also been taken up to pay the pending subsidy amount to the filmmakers.
An amount of Rs 1 lakh each would be paid to producers of 17 celluloid films brought out since 2000.Moreover, the State Govt would be extending Rs 1 lakh each to celluloid film producers.
The names of the films which would be receiving a subsidy amount of Rs 1 lakh each are Anjana Films�s Khamba Thoibi produced by M Nilamani, Anjana Cine Art Productions� Yening-tha Amada, produced by M Ashwimikumar, Pony Films� Thambal and Vishnu Films� Meiree both produced by Surjakanta, CS Film Productions� Mandir and Zehara produced by Ch Shyamacharan, Sangai Films� Chatledo Eidi produced by Makhon Mani Mongshaba, BG Films� Hayen-gna Kanagee produced by W Gojen, Nelson Films� Ima Lakkhini produced by Jiban Heisnamba, Kalimai Films� Leishabi Amana produced by L Padam, CM Productions� Inthoklabi produced by Ch Manao, Moore Productions� Meichak produced by Roger Moore and NS Films� Sana-manbi Sanarei produced by G Narayan Sharma.
As for four other films which have already been provided Rs 50,000 each as subsidy, only the remaining amount would be provided.
The four films are Shankar Films� Meichak Meichak produced by M Pramodini, Bright Films� Iral Oirage and Aroiba Na-tte produced by Chan Heisnam and Sri Sri Govindajee�s Eigini Punshi.
Disclosing that efforts are also being made to organise film festival on regular basis, the source said the approval of the Cabinet is awaited on the draft of the rules and regulations framed in this connection.
Once the Cabinet gives it not, the matter would be published in the Gazette notification.
