Midnapore (WB), January 21:
Eighteen tourists from Manipur were injured when the bus carrying them to the sea resort of Digha overturned at Madpur under Kharagpur Local police station in West Midnapore district yesterday, police said.
The injured were first admitted to the State general hospital at Kharagpur.
But three, whose condition was stated to be serious, were later shifted to Midnapore Medical College Hospital.
Language has become a barrier in getting information from the Manipuri tourists, the sources said.
Our Staff Reporter adds from Imphal : When The Sangai Express contacted the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan, Kolkata, V Raj Rai today evening, the MPS officer said that they came to know about the incident through the newspapers and added that as soon as the information was received, a staff of Manipur Bhawan was sent to the spot to get a first hand information.
All the 18 injured people have been discharged, he said and added that the incident occurred while they were on their way to Puri after witnessing the Ganga Sagar Mela.
At the moment preparations are being made to send them back to Imphal, said the officer and added that the owner of the bus is from Bishnupur.
It is still not clear whether they will return by air or by road.
