Six trucks set ablaze on NH-37

Jiribam, September 16 2011:
Suspected supporters of the UNCsponsored counter blockade have burnt down at least six Imphal-bound goods laden trucks coming from Jiribam near Oinamlong along National Highway 37, 60 kms from here today.
The act of arson took place in the afternoon today inspite of being escorted by well armed security personnel and right under the nose of personnel of 110 BN of BSF posted nearby.
Of the six ill-fated trucks, four were carrying cement bags while the remaining two were loaded with medicines when they were intercepted and set on fire.
All six were among 1250 goods laden vehicles which had left from Jiribam for Imphal along National Highway 37 early morning today.
They were bineg escorted by personnel of IRB and MR.Goods laden trucks which left from Jiribam include 282 trucks carrying cement bags, 138 trucks carrying rice of FCI, 76 petrol tankers, 72 diesel tankers, 20 LPG bullets, 14 trucks carrying fertiliser and 9 other trucks carrying paper and other essential commodities.
