Illegal taxes forced Wingers to suspend service along Imphal-Dimapur road

Denouncing illegal taxes being collected from Tata Wingers plying along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road), North East Inter State Winger Transporters Union has suspended their service indefinitely since last midnight.
Talking to mediapersons in this regard today, President of the Union Moiranthem Tombi disclosed that an amount of Rs 100 to Rs 1000 is being illegally collected as taxes on daily basis from every Tata Winger in service along Imphal-Dimapur Road by various organizations and police officials.
So, altogether around Rs 2000 has to be spent for up and down journey and it is becoming impossible for the owners and drivers of Tata Wingers to carry on the service.
He further informed that at Mao Gate NSCN-IM collects Rs 100 per trip from every Tata.
In addition to this, various UG groups including Kuki UG groups which are signatories of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Central and the State Government are collecting yearly taxes of Rs 5000 from all the Tata Wingers.
Over and above, various toll booths, police stations, police check posts, municipal councils and others both in the State of Manipur and Nagaland collect taxes from every passing Tata Winger along the NH-2, he added.
Raising the demand for establishment and deployment of Highway Protection Force, Tombi also reiterated the need for setting up a Guest House in Dimapur for the conveniences of the people of the State and also for setting up of a parking lot for Tata Wingers at North AOC in Imphal.
