Maralui Karalimai Swijoikang (MKS), meaning Maram Students' Union (MSU), HQ Senapati, Manipur has expressed dismay over the incident in which a young student girl accidentally came into contact with a fallen live wire of a weak electric post and died.
A press release issued by the president of MKS (MSU), Pungdi P Celestine said that the victim T Pungdila Levi, daughter of Talu, a student of PP Christian English High School, Lairouching succumbed at 11.50 am on September 9 (Thursday).
The MKS regrets that the student's life could have been saved had the lines-men on duty were available at the time of the incident.
But even after immediate hunt for the lines-men to cut-off the main line (current) in order to pull out the victim from the fallen wire proved futile.
That incident was the second time in two consecutive years that the villagers had come into contact with fallen live wires and weak electric posts due to negligence of the department concerned.
If necessary measures are not taken up immediately, such incidents may happen again in future.
The post-mortem was conducted at Mao Police Station at 4pm.
