A TWO-DAY "Mine Risk Education Training Programme" organised by Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Manipur state branch under the aegis of International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC) and IRCS, National head quarter, New Delhi has concluded today at Hotel Anand Continental, Thangal Bazar here.
Thirty volunteers selected from all the nine districts of the state were given educational training on land mine risk.The training programme started from yesterday.
A second batch of two-day educational training programme on the same subject would be held from tomorrow at Hotel Nirmala here.
Another batch of 30 volunteers from all the districts of the state would be given educational training.
Secretary of IRCS, Manipur state branch Dr M Lala, representative of ICRC John George and representative of IRCS Dahlier Singh are supervising the training programmes.
The senior representatives of the Red Cross organisations and the volunteers today visited the homes of the victims of Pourabi bomb blast and met them personally to enquire about their health conditions and life style.
Among the victims met by the senior officials of the ICRC and IRCS were some persons whos legs or hands had been amputated.
After seeing the condition of the maimed victims, the senior officials gave hints of making necessary arrangements for providing the victims with permanent
artificial limbs.
Since some of the victims whose parts of limbs had been amputated are in the prime of age and are still physically growing, it is necessary to wait till their growth is complete before giving them permanent artificial limbs, according to Red Cross official sources.
