A two-day academic programme of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), 'Caucus 2009' was inaugurated today at the Indoor Stadium, Chandel district headquarters with the theme 'Envisioning Change through Education'.
The caucus is hosted by the Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC).
The inaugural function was graced by Commissioner of Education (S), Prasant Kumar Singh, IAS; Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district, H Dilip, IAS; Director of Education (S), M Harekrishna; and Cooperative Registrar, T Panmei, IAS as the chief guest, president, guest of honour and special guest respectively.

President of ATSUM, Thomas Taishya said, the first Caucus was held in 2007 .
Based on some historical resolutions it adopted during the discourse, students' body has carried out its work.
He said, the students' body did not alter its stand on enforcement of Meetei Mayek in the hill districts.
He said that the tribal students' body is not against the promotion of any language or script while adding that everyone must restrain from any kind of 'imposition.' He said, the people should choose that would benefit them in the long run on their own.
Thomas Taishya said that 'Envisioning Change through Education' has been adopted by ATSUM for the year's theme in view of the importance the student's body given to the right to education as enshrined in the Constitution of India.
Delivering the chief guest speech, Prashant Kumar said, the discourse should focus more on the future of the tribal students.
He observed that the urgent need for the tribal students is the appointment of adequate teachers in hill districts.
He said, the government has been trying to fulfill the needs of the tribal students.
After the inaugural programme, a brainstorming session on 'Role of Tribal Academicians in Manipur' was held.
The session was moderated by Benjamin Tao, principal of Samaritan Public School, Senapati while the panelist of the session was Ng Vincent, Librarian of Chandel United College.
The resource person was Dr Dallian Haokip, principal of Blue Star Academy, Churachandpur.
Maring Cultural troupe from Chandel and Tarao cultural have presented cultural items on the occasion.
