Ukhrul, November 24 2009:
In view of the erratic power supply, Ukhrul Students Union (HKL) conducted a mobile kerosene sale drive in whole Ukhrul town today, reports our correspondent.
During the sale, over 7040 litres (around 32 barrels) of kerosene were distributed in seven major localities of the town.
Talking to The Sangai Express on the sidelines of the mobile sale, president of HKL Godfry Zingkhai said that due to the failure of the Power Department, the people of the district have been facing inconvenience.
As promotion exams are knocking at door, students are the most affected lot with the erratic power supply, he added.
Maintaining that most of the parents in the town are not afford to buy candles for their children's study, Godfry Zingkhai said TKS sensed the need of such mobile sales of SK oil for the benefit of the students.
He further said that parents from farflung areas who have sent their wards to the town for studies toil hard as their children's expenditures soar because of the irregular power supply.
The president further stated that HKL has also detected some malpractices on the parts of the kerosene oil agents and stockiest as they distribute/supply kerosene on barrel system without metre reading.
