Three armed youths kidnapped a private supervisor of a contractor on the ransom demand of Rs.5 lakh.
Police suspect the kidnappers to be cadres of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) .
Official sources said that the three armed youths who came on a motorcycle took away the supervisor of the labourers, Md Abdullah (40) son of Late Md Sajao of Tera Khongnembi village, while he was on his way to his work site in the interior of Bishnupur district on December 25, around 5 pm.
He was kidnapped from Laingoubi Chingjin on the way to the work site at Sangaikot village under Kumbi Police Station.
He was travelling on a DI Tata along with six labourers engaged in the construction of a block office at Sangaikot.
The kidnappers snatched away three mobile phones from the labourers and demanded ' 5 lakh from the contractor, Md Parouddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
He is the son of former Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Md Maniruddin Sheik.
According to the labourers who were with the supervisor, the three armed youths stopped the vehicle they were travelling in and inquired if the contractor was with them.
After they realised that the contractor was not part of the team, they took away Abdullah, the supervisor.
Before leaving the place, the three youths threatened the labourers of dire consequences if they informed about the kidnapping to the police or the security forces.
Bishnupur district police commandos launched a search in some areas around Laingoujing to rescue the kidnapped person.
So far, there are no reports of a rescue of the supervisor or rounding up of suspects related to the kidnapping.
