Paddy seeds of hybrid variety PAC 807 and high-yielding variety IR 64 have been distributed to paddy farmers of Sangaithel today.
Presiding the seed distribution function ICDP (Rice) scheme in-charge L Ibomcha said that efforts are being made to take up first phase of paddy cropping in Ukhrul and Chandel districts with SRI method.
Cultivation of seedlings have already begun in valley districts.
He announced that farmers possessing fields with good irrigation facilities may take PAC 807 seeds from Agriculture Department free of cost.
Chief guest of the function, Agriculture SE K Manoranjan said that beehives would be made available to mustard farmers from the next season so that farmers can produce honey in addition to mustard and mustard seeds.
The paddy seed distribution function was organised by the Kangleipak Ching-Tam Trade Union.
The function was also attended by advisor of the Kangleipak Ching-Tam Trade Union and Editor of the Kangleipakki Meira Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, Oilseed and Pulses, SUBACS scheme in-charge Ch Jugindro, Dr M Thoithoi of KVK Thoubal and SMS Plant Breeder Dr S Madhumangol.
Paddy seeds were distributed to farmers selected by Kangleipak Ching Tam Trade Union, Sangaithel unit under ICDP (Rice) scheme.
