Imphal, October 29 2011:
Different Naga bodies have strongly condemned the alleged physical assault meted out to ANSAM President Ino J Kumo Sha by Assam Rifles personnel in Senapati on October 24 last.
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) staged protest at Gandhi Chowk in Ukhrul district headquarters today.
A large number of students took part in the rally holding placards and marched from TKS office to Gandhi Chowk.
The protesters denounced violence and expressed longing for peace and harmony which have suffered under the draconian laws like AFSPA (1958), said a TKS press release.
Many frontal organisations leaders including TKS president Yangmi Khapai and former ANSAM vice president Ngachonmi Chamroy spoke during the protest rally, it added.
TKS demanded that Major Marathi, who has been accused of assaulting the ANSAM president, should be immediately terminated from his service terming his behaviour as unbecoming of an officer and unfit to be at the service of the country.
If the Army takes the liberty to harass innocent people during the ceasefire, one can imagine how situation would have been at other times, the press release said.
ANSAM is the apex student's organisation of all the Nagas in Manipur and Kumo Sha is an elected head and has been endorsed with the mandate of all Naga students, the press release said and added that it is the bounden duty of Naga students to uphold the dignity and ensure justice to the organisation.
It further said that it is an irony that the Assam Rifles that boasts themselves to be the 'Friends of the Hill People' harass people.
TKS also said that actions must be guided by reason and not by power from the barrel of guns.
