Imphal, October 29 2011:
The Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) has strongly condemned the attack on Works Minister K Ranjit by suspected supporters of the SHDDC sponsored highway blockade.
Speaking to media persons at his residence this afternoon, MSCP spokesperson and ex-MLA Vivekraj Wangkhem said that MSCP sympathised with the issue of Sadar Hills since the last many years.
But keeping the whole population at ransom even to the extent of denying the people essential commodities in pursuit of certain demands is quite inhuman, to say the least, Vivekraj remarked.
Keeping a Minister under siege and then attacking him by pelting stones and opening fire cannot be condoned under any circumstances.
Observing that the three months old highway blockade can spark communal tension any moment, the MSCP spokesperson appealed to the SHDDC to re-consider their stance on the ongoing highway blockade.
He also urged the Government to make all possible efforts to resolve the Sadar Hills issue.
The ex-MLA further decried the act of triggering twin blasts at Thangal Bazar on Diwali night (October 26) in which seven people sustained injuries.
Conveying solidarity to the injured victims, Vivekraj appealed to all concerned to refrain from such action in future.
