Guwahati, October 23:
Awareness is the key to prevention.
And what best than if the patientsthe people who have felt the pain and trauma, take up the task to make the people aware about the disease they are suffering from.
Band of Positive Brothers, a Manipur based western musical band with all HIV positive persons is set to rock the Dr John Berry White Auditorium of the Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on October 31 to spread awareness about HIVand AIDS.
The musical programme titled 'Music for a cause' is being organized by the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of the AMCH as part of its public awareness campaign on the theme to make the world a better place to live.
General Secretary of the JDA Sushanta Baruah said that the seven-member group from Manipur is of national repute and added that none other than the Band of Positive Brothers could spread the awareness on AIDS and the HIV in a better way.
All the seven members of the group are HIV positive and they know the pains and trauma of the AIDS patient, Baruah said and added that the band is the only one where all the members are HIV positive.
After they came to know about their HIV status, they did not let frustration or despair rule them like others but took to music to spread awareness about the disease.
This is a very positive gesture, said Baruah while narrating about the band.
Their attitude is positive towards the world despite the fact that they were all HIV positive and we think they could take the message in the best of ways to the younger generation, he said.
The JDA has also organized public rallies involving school children in the districts of Jorhat, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia to spread the awareness about HIV and AIDS among the common people.
The musical programme is basically to spread awareness among the younger generations of the State, he said and added that the JDA has chosen the Band of Positive Brothers so that the members can perform and make the younger generation aware.
