Noted Shumang Leela playwright and columnist of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) Chana Lukhoi will be honoured with the first IACAM Award, 2006 to be presented by Indigenous Art and Culture Association, Manipur (IACAM).
The award will be presented to the recipient during a function at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palace Compound on October.
26 at 1 pm.
Donated by the Shijagurumayum family in memory of late Shijagurumayum Nilbir Shastri, the award has been instituted by IACAM to honour noted playwrights of Shumang Leela.
Out of four Shumang Leela playwrights shortlisted by Shumang Leela Council, namely Ngairangbam Ibohal, Thangjam Birachand, Rupachandra Ghose and Chana Lukhoi, a three-member jury comprising of Laishram Birendra, Dr M Kriti and IS Kangjam unanimously selected Chana Lukhoi for the IACAM Award, 2006.Association legal advisor N Joy opened the sealed envelop of the jury members and announced the name of the winner.
The award presentation ceremony which would be held at BOAT along with the release of two Shumang Leelas namely 'Kaidongpham' and 'Ichegi Ibungo' would be attended by Art and Culture P Parijat Singh, MLA Dr M Nara Singh and MLA Bijoy Koijam as chief guest, president and guest of honour.
