Commandant of 19 Assam Rifles Col SS Waradkar has appealed to village chiefs of Saikul area to help in identifying and uprooting the anti-social elements from among the midst of the people so as to move ahead toward development and peace in the society.
Speaking at the occasion of a one-day District Level Cultural Festival organised by Gangpijang Youth Club under the sponsorship of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kangpokpi at Gangpijang Community Hall today, Waradkar said anti-social elements from among the midst of the people should be uprooted for good if they wanted to live in peace in a developed society.
Waradkar, who was the chief guest of the inaugural function of the festival held under the theme of 'Unity, Peace and Harmony among the youths' further said Indian Army has been able to keep good relationship with people living in remote villages as its personnel always work with a vision to promote peace and development in the society.
AR would also continue to do its best in helping the people to live in an environment of peace and harmony, he said while appealing to extend their co-operation and support to the Assam Rifles in this regard.
He also expressed hope that organising such cultural festival would help in promoting a sense of unity among the various communities and particularly among the youth and donated a computer set to Gangpijang Youth Club.
Social worker Thangkam Misao appealed to people to fight against the anti-social elements collectively and spread the message of peace and love in the area.
People should also extend their co-operation to security personnel who are taking up various welfare measures for them, he noted.
Youth Co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra H Doungel, who also spoke at the occasion hoped the festival would help in making the youth to lead a disciplined life and work together for the betterment of the society.
Presentation of cultural dances of various communities made the event a grant success.
