The Manipuri version of Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 has been released along with felicitation of persons with disabilities during a function held at the hall of Spastic Society of Manipur at Ghari, Airport Road.
The function was attended by Minister of Social Welfare DK Korungthang as chief guest, CO 22 Maratha Light Infantry Col Harjinder Singh and MD of NEREFS New Delhi James Keishing as guest of honour.
Three persons with disabilities were also felicitated at the occasion.
They are Sanjenbam Satyakumar s/o (L) S Surendro of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai, Laishram Isheihanbi d/o late L Manglem of Utlou Mamang Leikai and Irengbam Ranjit Singh s/o late S Surendro Singh of Moirang Siribon Leikai.
All three of them have been honoured in recognition of their efforts in overcoming their disabilities and excelling in their respective fields.
Born on August 27, 1954, Sanjenbam Satyakumar Singh has excelled in the field of painting and literature.
Apart from using his feet in painting.
Satyakumar has written and published two books namely Mimannadabagee Tengthakhol on October 28, 1999 and Pukningee Tengtha Leichal on December 27, 2005.Besides, a documentary film on him titled D-Abled Man has been made and aired by DDK Imphal.
Born of August 10, 1957, Laishram Isheihanbi Devi has also overcame her disabilities and excelled in the field of embroidery by using her feet only.
While Irengbam Ranjit Singh, who was born as a physically challenged person on February 1, 1984 has excelled in the field of body-building by achieving Mr Manipur title in (handicapped category) twice in a row in the year 2005 and 2006.
The released of Manipuri version of Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 is a joint project of Spastic Society of Manipur and Disability Law Unit of Shishu Sarohi, Guwahati, a centre for rehabilitation and training for multiple disability with support from Light for the World, an Australian NGO working for the cause of persons with disabilities.
