After one of the loukon has been rendered useless consequent upon using the herbicide� Eraze manufactured by the Hyderbad based Nagarjuna Agrichem Limited, Consumers' Club, Manipur has appealed to the farmers not to use this particular herbicide in their paddy field and other cultivable land.
Talking to media persons, president of Consumers' Club, Manipur Takhelchangbam Phurchand Sharma informed that all the crops growing in the field belonging to one Ch Abhiram of Yairipok Bishnunaha have been destroyed after using the said herbicide on July 3.Based on a complaint lodged to the Consumers' Club in this regard, an inspection team was sent to the Silom Loukon of Yairipok Bishnunaha in Thoubal district today and collected the samples of the paddy destroyed after using Eraze.
The Club has taken serious note of the fact that paddy grown in over 9 paris of paddy field in this particular loukon have dried up after using the herbicide in accordance to the instructions given by the manufacturing company.
So the farmers should not use the said herbicide in their paddy field for atleast sometime, he appealed.
The Club president further pointed out that that all the chemical related to agricultural activities being brought from outside Manipur should be tested at the laboratory of the Agriculture Department of the Government before allowing to be used by the farmers besides conducting awareness programmes on why such chemicals should be apply.
The Department should pay serious attention to this aspects apart from ensuring that all the distributors are license holders, he said.
