Imphal, July 05: Newly anointed Works Minister K Ranjit has stated that the Government employees should render their services to the people sincerely and not think of personal gain.

Otherwise, the effort of the Government to take up welfare measures of the people would go waste.

Speaking at a reception function hosted in his honour by the employees of Public Works Department (PWD) at the conference hall of its Khuyathong office building today, Ranjit observed that lack of discipline and sincerity among the employees caused lots of difficulties in finding out the truth.

'Any good suggestions would be welcome and I would try my level best to implement the same', he said.

While observing that he has been given the charge of the PWD by the Chief Minister with the conviction that some significant works would be performed, Ranjit also sought co-operation of the employees so that he could live up to the expectation of the people.

Disclosing that DO letters have been received from some of the Ministers and MLAs for including development of the road communication in their respective Assembly Constituencies in the work programmes, the Minister maintained that developmental works should be taken up even if there is law and order problem.

The Minister also said that he would like to know how the Department is now having liabilities for over Rs 200 crores.

Works Commissioner Henry K Heni who also spoke at the occasion pointed out that even if the PWD is a major department having sufficient resources, the working system could not be improved as a resultant of the ineffective service condition.

Law and order problem is another factor that impede field supervision, he added.

Chief Engineer of PWD Ng Rashtrapati said that Dept has not be able to perform its duty of improving the condition of the road and the bridges in accordance to the aspiration of the people due to various problems.

Though a huge amount of fund is being released under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA), the Dept faces difficulties in allotment of work order thereby delaying the process of development, he added.
