The president of the All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Manipur branch), G Ningthoudai has urged the Government to implement its earlier assurances of providing the requisite educational needs to the students of Tamenglong district.
Speaking to newsmen today, the student leader said that Tamenglong district is the most backward district in the State and lamented that no-thing has so far been done by successive Govt to better the lot of the people of this district.
On Jan 31 this year, the Cabinet took a decision to appoint 51 part time teachers for the 31 Jr High School, Hr Sec School, nine High Schools and one college located at Tamenglong.
However according to a fresh order issued on February 27, only 22 teachers were appointed at the educational institutions of the district, he lamented.
The student leader said that there is absolutely no ground for the Govt to renege on its earlier assurances and added that the school buildings should also be repaired before the HSLC exam this year as assured earlier.
Another student leader, G Majabung, the assistant convenor of the student body, demanded that the Govt should revoke its earlier order of shifting the Poulien Jr High School from Marangjing to Saitu Gamphazol in Senapati district.
The order to shift the school was issued on March 5 last year, he informed and added that the order should be revoked by Nov 24 this year.
Chairman of the student body, James Liangmei said that the decrepit school buildings are being used as cow sheds as most of the buildings are without proper structure.
Highlighting other woes, the chairman said that the though a second doctor was assured for the Primary Health Centre at Noney nothing has been done so far to implement the earlier assurances.
