Accusing the security personnel of let-ting loose a reign of terror at Jiribam by harassing the local populace, the All Manipur Students' Union has demanded the removal of the security personnel from Jiri area with immediate effect.
Speaking to media persons at the AMSU hqs today, N Janibala Devi, president of AMSU branch, Jiribam said that N Ronen Singh, a member of AMSU was admitted to the Community Health Centre after he was severely tortured by the security personnel.
She said that Ronen is still un-conscious.
To air their grievances and to highlight the atrocities of the security, the student body today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister for necessary action.
Local MLA and Commerce and Industries Minister Th Debendra was present when the memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister.
Skipping the excesses of the security personnel, the memorandum highlighted the acute lack of teachers at Jiribam adding that there are more than 100 vacant posts of teachers.
AMSU urged the CM to take up the necessary spade work and try to fill the vacancies by local people.
The memorandum also highlighted the abysmal condition of health care at the sub- division adding that the Community Health Centre cannot even supply a piece of bandage.
The condition of the operation theatre, X Ray machine and laboratory are all in shabby shapes, said AMSU.
The student body urged the Chief Minister to construct a 200 bedded hospital at a suitable site within the sub-division so that the long felt need of the people may be addressed to adequately.
Lack of good drinking water was another highlighted by the student body.
The memorandum urged the Government to construct water supply plants at different parts of the sub-division.
The Government was also urged to depute a Judicial Magistrate to the sub-division and to upgrade the post of the SDPO to the rank of an Additional SP.
