Imphal, June 01:
Breaking his silence with regard to the ever rising speculations over the fate of the Naga peace process following the change of leadership in the Indian politics, NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah has issued a statement from Bangkok that since the issue was between the Government of India and the "Naga people", change of guards in New Delhi would not, in any way hamper the Naga peace process.
In a delayed statement made available to Newmai News Network in Dimapur today, Th Muivah while congratulating the Congress - led UPA Government, has expressed hope that the new Government would work towards bringing an honourable solution to the Naga problem.
The statement of the NSCN-IM supremo recalls events of the 1980s and 1990s mentioning that it was former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who had taken the initiative during her tenure as Prime Minister in finding a political settlement to the Naga problem adding that the lady Prime Minister had used "feelers" in her move to approach to the issue.
Muivah also complimented the late Rajiv Gandhi for having continued the steps of his late mother Indira Gandhi in finding solution to the Naga problem.
The lengthy statement of Th Muivah also dwells on the initiative taken up by another former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao "who had taken the initiative afresh".
The NSCN-IM supremo said, "clear terms for the dialogue between the Government of India and the NSCN were chalked out and agreed upon during P.V.Narasimha Raos time and we have been working all along strictly adhering to those terms".
