Imphal, March 23 2013 :
A day ahead of the World Tuberculosis Day observance which falls tomorrow, students of the College of Nursing, Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei presented a street play at the hospital campus today to spread public awareness on the global efforts of eliminating the disease.
Delivering the keynote address of the event, Dr AD Singh, Medical Superintendant of CMC Hospital, highlighted the vision, mission and target of this year TB day observation and exhorted that at a time when partners are calling for zero TB deaths, we need to make a stronger statement that the world's failure to stop deaths from TB is an outrage.
TB is airborne and every day 4000 people lose their lives to TB, despite the fact that it's curable at low-cost.
But the fight against TB is grossly underfunded, he added.
Giving Vote of thanks, Mrs.Thoinu, Matron of CMC Hospital thanked Prof..MAkshayakumar, Clinical Psychologist of the Hospital for directing the Street Play, the administration of the Hospital, Principal of the College and Dr.AD Singh for their presence on the occasion.
