Imphal, March 23, 2013:
The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL), Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI) have pledged support to the various initiatives taken up by the Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) for the upliftment and the rights of the tribal people in Manipur.
In separate statements, the three Tangkhul bodies pledged full cooperation and support, mentally, physically and logistically to the TYCM.
The ZTKL statement reckoned that the TYCM is doing the right thing for the tribals of Manipur for their welfare and development.
It is a well know fact that there is a huge disparity between the people of the hills and the valley.
Manipur achieved Statehood in 1972, and it is every one's knowledge that there are a lot of gaps in almost all the fields between the tribals and the dwellers of the valley.
And, it is at the right time that TYCM has taken up the socio-economic problems faced by the tribals in Manipur, the ZTKL said while conveying its firm belief in equality, dignity and rights of all human beings.
The pathetic socio-economic condition of the tribals have to be blamed on the successive Manipur Governments.
And the present situation of the tribals have become worse due to negligence of the Government of Manipur, the statement said.
Stating that what the people need now is a fair, democratic and uncorrupt Government in Manipur so that there is peace, progress and development, a statement issued by TKLI said it is high time that the Government distributes the funds in equal manner across the State.
The Tangkhul bodies further, univocally endorsed the idea of TYCM and other organizations that no development work in Ukhrul district and elsewhere in tribal areas be given responsibility to Manipur Development Society (MDS) but should be handed over to Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) through Hills Area Committee (HAC) according to Article 371C of the Indian Constitution, due to the simple reason that MDS has miserably failed in its responsibilities and performance on several occasions.
The TMNL, in a statement cited the dissatisfactory and haphazard constructions of multi-hall at Pettigrew College, Mini- stadium at Bakshi Ground and Gallery at Tangkhul Naga Long Ground in Ukhrul district as an example of the failure of the agency concerned.
The Tangkhul bodies also conveyed their preparedness to participate in any democratic course of action being launched by TYCM in the near future in fulfilling its demands.
In support of the TYCM, the TKLI and TMNL have also" participated in the first consultative-cum-press conference organized by TYCM on the theme "Tribal Rights and the Present Socio-economics Developments and Problems of the Tribals in Manipur" held at Manipur Press Club on March 19.
