Sapre takes oath as Chief Justice of State HC

In a landmark event in the judicial history- of Manipur, former Judge of Chhattishgarh High Court Abhay Manohar Sapre was today sworn in as the first Chief Justice of the newly set up Manipur High Court.
AM Sapre was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Gurbachan Jagat in a function held at Raj Bhavan this morning.
Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Ministers, MLAs and a number of high ranking civil and police officials were also present at the oath taking ceremony.
Speaking to media persons after the swearing in ceremony, Justice AM Sapre stated that it was his good fortune that he was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
He also assured that he would work with all the commitment to ensure that justice is done to the people of Manipur.
Giving credits to the people of Manipur for ultimately achieving a separate High Court for the State, Justice AM Sapre exuded confidence that the new High Court can address many of the inconveniences and difficulties faced by the people of Manipur on account of absence of a separate High Court for the State.
With the establishment of the new High Court and expected delivery of justice, Manipur can now take giant steps towards progress, stated the new Chief Justice.
Assuring that he would discharge his duty with responsibility keeping in mind what is expected from a Chief Justice, Justice Sapre stated that he would put in maximum efforts to dispose pending cases on priority basis.
Conveying his hope that the Centre would induct Judges to all the vacant posts very soon, Sapre stated that two Judges of the Manipur High Court have been sworn in today.
Two others are also expected to be sworn in shortly.
Six months after the Manipur High Court starts functioning, the Union Law Minister would sanction another Judge for the same High Court and this would take the total number of Judges to five.
Notably, preparations are being made to inaugurate Manipur High Court on March 25 by Union Law and Justice Minister Ashwini Kumar and Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir.
The Manipur High Court will be inaugurated after the Meghalaya High Court is inaugurated on the same day, that is March 25 in the morning.
