Imphal, January 25:
Rolling out the red carpet to welcome the women voters, the State unit of the BJP is set to organize a 'women's only' rally sometime in the second week of February to cap off the Atal Sandesh Yatra which was kicked off on January 23.Speaking to newsmen, State BJP president and sitting MP Th Chaoba said that women will take out a rickshaw rally around Imphal city and later converged at GM Hall where a public meeting will be held.
The meeting will highlight the achievements of BJP led NDA Government under Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, in the last five years.
Efforts are also on to organize an intellectual conference at Imphal, said Chaoba and added that around 700 personalities are expected to take part in the meet.
Eminent BJP leaders such as Arun Shourie and Ravi Prasad are expected to take part in the conference, added Chaoba.
District presidents, block presidents and some economists will also take part in the conference, said Chaoba and added that the economic scenario in Manipur as well as in India will be discussed.
The BJP national president Venkaiah Naidu has been requested to take part in the concluding function of the Atal Sandesh Yatra at Imphal, informed Chaoba.
Reacting to allegations hurled against him by the MPCC (I) in connection with the murder of school girl Lungnila Elizabeth, the MP said that Speaker TN Haokip, Works Minister Gaikhangam and TD Minister Ngamthang Haokip should clarify why their names were dragged into the case by the NSCN (IM).
If they are innocent they should clear their names by giving ample proof and evidences, added Chaoba.
Refuting the allegations raised by the Congress, Chaoba said that no WLL telephone connection has been issued in his name.
Chaoba said that he was away at Delhi when the school girl was kidnapped as well as when her body was recovered.
Chaoba also questioned whether the allegations were raised by the MPCC (I) spokesman Gunadhwaja in cahoots with the police 10 who is in charge of the case.
Scoffing at the accusations of the Congress, the BJP MP stressed that there is no relationship between the BJP and the NSCN (IM).
Just because the peace talk between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) is on at the moment, it does not mean that there is a link between the BJP and the NSCN (IM), said Chaoba and challenged the Congress to give evidences of any links that the party may have with the NSCN (IM).
On the allegations that he had misutilised the MP fund, Chaoba stressed that the question does not arise as he has been judiciously utilizing the MP fund allotted to him.
Turning the table on the Congress, Chaoba countered and asked what the Congress has done for the people when its MP represented Manipur for eight years at Parliament.
