A One-day awareness on social security for the labour class people organized by the All India Trade Congress, Manipur Branch was held at Manipur Press Club, Major Khul.
State health and family welfare and labour minister, P Parijat, general secretary of the AITUC, state secretarty L Sotinkumar and state labour commissioner, Ng Gokulmani attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively at the inaugural function of the discussion.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Parijat informed that in order to count the number of labours, government is planning to introduce smart card system to the labours.
For the security and welfare of the labour in unorganized sectors, Parliament has passed Social Security Act the minister said adding that this Act is above other Acts which enacted for the welfare and security of the labour class people.
Many bodies like the AITUC are keeping close watch on the implementation of the Acts.
Citing on the labour class people of the state, Parijat observed that most of the labour class people in the state are engaging in cultivation works.
They are under the category of unorganized sector.
He also observed that the state labour department in to be named as Labour Welfare Department in the true sense because the department is working for the welfare of the labour class people.
The minister also asked labour class people to avail the benefits of the welfare schemes implementing by the department expressing that today's programme will help in giving awareness to this group of people to know their rights and benefits that can be availed by them.
General Secretary of AITUC speaking on the occasion expressed the need of knowing the Acts that bound them by the labour class people.
They should demand their rightful demands from the government with the help of bodies working for them.
Labours are facing various difficulties due to meager in wage payment.
If they got adequate wages for their works, there no reason for remaining in such pity condition.
Revealing that currently the labourers are getting only Rs 80.40 per day, the body will pressed the authority to increase the same to Rs 117 .
